Re-Connecting with Yourself in Times of Disconnection!

12th November 2018 – 6:30 pm to 9 pm
ImpactHub King’s Cross London

We live in turbulent times where confusion, fake news, mass manipulation, invasion of privacy, wildly unstable economies and rogue states with pantomime villains for leaders have become normal. Chronic anxiety, fear and uncertainty have created extremes of disconnection in our society and in ourselves. For many, even a telephone conversation with a friend seems too intimate, the distance and safety of messaging and posting is another new normal.

In the age of the algorithm and artificial intelligence, the mechanised thinking that began in the 17th century and has dominated human society for the last three hundred years, is being automated at a rate and on a scale that is beyond our imagination and potentially beyond our control. Our already fragile connection to ourselves, each other and the world continues to be strained by the separation and sorting of the world that technology imposes.

The complexity of modern systems cannot be understood by separating issues into neat boxes and diagrams. We need a different worldview to guide us in this new world of continuous change and intimately connected systems that reach around the globe.

Martin Kalungu-Banda and Gelong Thupten together with a panel of experts will share their insights and methods for shifting from a sense of disconnection to a place of reconnection and guide us in belonging to a world of continuous change and intimately connected systems that reach around the globe.

Martin Kalungu-Banda is an experienced senior organizational development consultant, social innovator, coach and social entrepreneur with an extensive track record of working with multi-stakeholders and cross-sector groups at international, national, local and organizational levels. He will share with us how to listen to your inner voice and shifting the place from where you operated. Martin has communicating effectively through writing, media (television, radio, web) and consulted companies and organisations like  PricewaterhouseCoopers, UK Department of International Development, The World Bank, BBC, former African Heads of State, United Nations Development Programme.

Gelong Thubten is a Buddhist monk who teaches meditation and specialises in providing non-religious mindfulness workshops and training programmes for businesses and organisations. He has trained under some of the world’s most accomplished teachers of meditation, and spent over five years in intensive meditation retreats. Thupten has  taught mindfulness at major global companies and organisations, including Google, LindkedIn, Siemens, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Lloyds Bank and has also been featured in the Times and Guardian newspapers and on the BBC and ITV. He is also pioneering a mindfulness training programme for medical students in Ireland, and he teaches in many schools, as well as hospitals, prisons and other organisations.

At Wisdom Talk London you will learn from those experts, you will have the opportunity to explore moments of re-connecting and share your own experience with others.

Join us on the 12th November in the ImpactHub of King’s Cross in London at 6:30 – 9:00 pm.
